Unquestionably one of the most diverse parks in Honduras, Pico Bonito covers an extension of land that goes from sea level to as high as 2,378 meters and in effect boasts the largest change of altitude in Honduras.
Quiriguá is one of the smallest Mayan Cities, but one of the most notable due to its splendid series of monuments, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, probably founded in the Late Pre-Classic era and flourished until the 10th century, when it was abandoned for unknown reasons. The archaeological site of Quiriguá contains the largest stelae ever discovered in the Mayan world. It seems likely –because of its sudden burst of mastery– that the artisans, and perhaps the rulers of Quiriguá came from Copán, Honduras, less than 100 kilometers South across the mountains.
Located 45 minutes North of Copán, this ‘Maya theme’ venue, with natural streams of hot and cold water, has 13 strategic spots along the trails aiming to replicate the Maya rulers and elite health–rituals performed in ancient times, within a perfectly blended natural environment. The thirteen numbers on the symbolic wave represent the energy of the universe, that is present at any place, on every thought, on the growing of the living being, a new project or a newly conceived idea.
